REACHING & TEACHING

Three years ago we were driving in a dark bus from the domestic to the international Bangalore terminal when I saw them out the window. Bodies lined on the curb covered head to toe in blankets, trying to sleep beneath the glaring street lights. There were scores of them.

I was astonished, horrified. I had seen homeless people before in India, but they usually slept in covered train stations, in dark corners. Here there was no protection from rain, noise, fumes. Was this the best place they could find?

The Indian man sitting next to me saw my distress. “Yes, the homeless,” he murmured matter-of-factly. “They have nowhere to go.” He was educated, interested in discussing Christianity with me, and I happened to have a gospel of John to leave him.

This picture of forlorn sleeping bodies stayed with me for months after we settled back into home routine. How could we help these people? We continue to pray for India and the friends we help support, who are India nationals that work with Youth with a Mission in slums, discipleship training schools, and church plants.

Now, almost three years later we are returning to teach again, as the monsoon rains are ending. We fly out August 31st, return September 21st. We’ll train students in two schools and one staff seminar (east of Mumbai and in Bangalore) on missions, evangelism, and identity/calling.

Please pray for protection, health, and anointed teaching. And that our efforts will multiply workers for the harvest.

We’ll update you when we return to Colorado Springs!
